Next time you sit under a shady tree or enjoy a nice scenic walk along a river track, take a moment to think who planted that tree.<\/p>\n
The Friends of the Werribee River most likely would be the group that has created numerous plantings for the public, and wildlife to enjoy.<\/p>\n
Areas along the river that have been, and on the agenda to be planted include, Harry\u2019s Hole (Meikle St), Boyes Close foot bridge, Werribee Vale Road concrete path, Graham street to Grant street, and 500m upstream of the pool at the stone steps.<\/p>\n
The group spokesperson Marika Ley said the Friends of Werribee River are always looking for an extra pair of hands.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur volunteer group relies on enthusiastic people with an interest in cleaning up and\u00a0re-vegetating our river landscape.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are jobs for all fitness levels and we just ask people to bring along their favourite gardening gloves and a mug if they are able to.\u201d<\/p>\n
Morning tea is provided and the planting days run from 9.30am-12.30pm.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll plants, tools, tree guards and stakes are\u00a0provided with grant money received from Melbourne Water,\u201d Ms Ley said.<\/p>\n
Anyone is welcome to turn up and attend a planting day and posters are up along the river paths advertising dates and locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
