NOMINATIONS are now open for the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards, the annual celebration of older Victorians who share their time, skills and experience to benefit their communities.<\/p>\n

There are six categories that people can be nominated in, including the Premier’s Award for Victorian Senior of the Year, the Council on the Ageing Victoria Senior Achiever Award, and the Emerging Impact Award, which recognises new volunteers who are already making an impact in their community.<\/p>\n

There’s also the Positive Ageing Award for promoting wellbeing and active ageing, the Promotion of Multiculturalism Award for advancing cultural diversity, and the Veteran Community Award for service to the veteran community.<\/p>\n

Last year, Professor Manjula Datta O’Connor was named Victorian Senior of the Year for her work supporting women facing family violence.<\/p>\n

Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt said the awards are about shining a light on the incredible efforts of seniors who make a difference every day.<\/p>\n

“I encourage Victorians to take a moment to nominate an older person in their life that is making a meaningful contribution in their local community,” she said.<\/p>\n

The awards will be presented in October at a ceremony as part of the annual Victorian Seniors Festival.<\/p>\n

All eligible nominees will receive a certificate of recognition for their contributions.<\/p>\n

Nominations can be made until Sunday 1 June with nominees required to be aged 60 years or older, or 50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.<\/p>\n
