A STORY published in the Moorabool News last month covering a grassroots call for a bus service from Bacchus Marsh to Woodgrove Shopping Centre has sparked a result.<\/p>\n
Resident Sylvia Merry had been advocating for a regular service to assist residents finding it difficult to access the Melton West shopping centre after many stores had closed in Bacchus Marsh.<\/p>\n
Ms Merry said that many residents who did not have their own transport were going without vital items including some clothing and electrical goods.<\/p>\n
“I was thrilled when I received a call from Dave Nichols from Cartier World Travel who told me his company was prepared to offer a trial bus run,” said Ms Merry.<\/p>\n
“I really appreciate his generosity.<\/p>\n
“Already I’ve had a number of people tell me they are pleased about the trial and will support it.<\/p>\n
“One woman has a 25-year-old daughter with a medical condition preventing her from driving and the bus will be a boost for her.<\/p>\n
“I hope everyone supports the trial and eventually we will be able to get a permanent service.”<\/p>\n
Mr Nichols said after he read the story, he immediately offered to do what he could to help.<\/p>\n
“We are offering the trial once a week from Bacchus Marsh to Woodgrove during June and will present the data on its usage to council,” he said.<\/p>\n
“If we can prove a need then hopefully they will look at helping to continue the service.”<\/p>\n
The free bus service commenced on Wednesday and will continue on 11, 18 and 25 June.<\/p>\n
“It departs Bacchus Marsh Senior Citizens Centre, 10 Bennett Street Bacchus Marsh, at 9.30am, arriving at Woodgrove Shopping Centre bus terminus at 10am,” Mr Nichols said.<\/p>\n
“The bus will depart at 12.30pm from Woodgrove, arriving at Bacchus Marsh Senior Citizens Centre at 1pm.”<\/p>\n
Mr Nichols said that during COVID-19 restrictions, his company, together with a local chemist, ran a free service delivering meals and medication to senior citizens.<\/p>\n
“It’s what they deserve,” he said.<\/p>\n
