{"id":3498,"date":"2019-09-16T10:14:35","date_gmt":"2019-09-16T00:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=3498"},"modified":"2024-02-02T21:00:15","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T10:00:15","slug":"investment-opportunities-abroad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/investment-opportunities-abroad\/","title":{"rendered":"Investment opportunities abroad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Kate Taylor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a move rarely seen, Moorabool Shire Council\u2019s CEO will put his hand in his own pocket to fund an overseas business trip.<\/p>\n<p>Derek Madden will travel to China for eight days this month (September).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn opportunity has arisen for the CEO to travel overseas for economic development and potential investment opportunities,\u201d read the report tabled at the September 4 council meeting.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after council Officers have been developing relationships with the owners of the Lal Lal Estate involving a new development &#8211; a tourism-based farm with educational components including a wool museum as well as further development and expansion of a working merino farm.<\/p>\n<p>The overseas owner of the estate extended an invitation to the CEO to attend various events and meetings to strengthen Council\u2019s ties with the owners of the estate.<\/p>\n<p>Councillors voted at the meeting to appoint General Manager of Infrastructure Phil Jeffrey as interim CEO in Mr Madden\u2019s absence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs it normal?\u201d Cr Dave Edwards asked of the trip being self-funded.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Madden replied that he sees it as \u201can opportunity to speak to potential investors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councillors at the meeting commended the self-funding of the trip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommendable,\u201d Cr Edwards said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHear, hear,\u201d said Cr Sullivan.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Cr Paul Tatchell will join Mr Madden on the trip, also self-funded, with Cr John Keogh filling his absence as Deputy Mayor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kate Taylor In a move rarely seen, Moorabool Shire Council\u2019s CEO will put his hand in his own pocket to fund an overseas business trip.
