Speeding was the highest road offence committed in Moorabool, following a state-wide Victoria Police operation to reduce road trauma.<\/p>\n

Operation Argus, which ran from 12.01am Thursday 5 September to 11.59pm Sunday 8 September, was set up in response to the significant number of people killed on Victorian roads this year.<\/p>\n

In Moorabool, 40 speeding offences were recorded, followed by ten unregistered vehicles, five unlicensed drivers, two drink drivers, two disqualified drivers, one seatbelt offence and one mobile phone offence.<\/p>\n

The operation targeted the main causes of road trauma, including driver impairment, fatigue, speeding, distraction and seatbelt offences.<\/p>\n

In an interview last month with the Moorabool News, Moorabool Inspector Damien Christensen said a component of combatting road trauma was education.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do we ensure that drivers are safe, [so] they\u2019re not distracted, they\u2019re not impaired, they\u2019re not fatigued,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s enforcement and education, and then safer speeds, so we have a lot to do with trying to influence speed limits.\u201d<\/p>\n
