THE Moorabool Seniors Festival is underway with a month-long program of free and low-cost events for older residents.<\/p>\n

The festival runs throughout October and is designed to inspire older residents and provide opportunities for social connection.<\/p>\n

There are more than 60 events occurring across the Shire, including online exercise classes, a worm farming workshop and a lunch by the Bacchus Marsh Country Women’s Association.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Moorabool Shire was part of the Country Concert Tour for the first time with a performance in Bacchus Marsh by The Stiletto Groove, and last week the community gathered for the Moorabool Seniors Festival expo with hands-on activities.<\/p>\n

Every Wednesday throughout the month, the Neon Cowboy Boot Scooters are combining fun, fitness, and community with line dancing.<\/p>\n

Held at Dream Entertainment Studios in Maddingley, no experience is required, and participants learn basic steps and rhythms.<\/p>\n

“I love line dancing because I can go anywhere in Australia, anywhere in the world, I can go find a line dancing group and they will welcome me with open arms,” instructor Edward Kays said.<\/p>\n

“It is inclusive, open and brings everyone together.”<\/p>\n

Tomorrow, Saturday 11 October, the Gordon Ukestra will be at Gordon Public Hall from 2pm until 5pm playing a range of songs.<\/p>\n

Community members are invited to come and sing along, dance or try a cord or two on a ukelele.<\/p>\n

Group member Sandra Jarrett said being involved with the group is the perfect way to stay young at heart.<\/p>\n

“I think it keeps you younger,” she said. “It’s anything you can do to mix with other people, so you don’t sit at home all alone.<\/p>\n

“It’s free to join, we usually put in a gold coin donation for the cost of hiring the hall, but we range in ages and sorts of people and it’s a great way to get involved in the community.”<\/p>\n
