{"id":36665,"date":"2025-11-09T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=36665"},"modified":"2025-11-06T11:53:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T00:53:16","slug":"rsls-to-host-remembrance-day-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/rsls-to-host-remembrance-day-services\/","title":{"rendered":"RSLs to host Remembrance Day services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COMMUNITY members are invited to gather across Moorabool Shire this Remembrance Day to reflect on the sacrifices made by the armed forces and civilians during times of war.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday 11 November at 11am a minute of silence will be observed across Australia, marking the end of hostilities on the Western Front during the First World War.<\/p>\n<p>Bacchus Marsh RSL, led by president Alf Hawken and vice-president Terry Rosewarne, will host a ceremony from 10.45am on the Village Green.<\/p>\n<p>There will be closures to Main Street between Young Street and Graham Street from 10am until 11.30am and refreshments will be served in the RSL Hall following the service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We include school children because the RSL sees the future of these commemorative services being in the hands of children,&#8221; said Iris Roberts, secretary of Bacchus Marsh RSL Sub-Branch.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The schools are very supportive in Bacchus Marsh, and all the schools attend and lay wreaths.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Two students from Bacchus Marsh College will read poems during the service.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>From 10.30am, a service will occur at the Ballan Cenotaph organised by Ballan RSL with road closures on Inglis Street between Fisken Street and Stead Street.<\/p>\n<p>A third ceremony will take place at Coimadai Memorial Park, also from 10.30am.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Roberts said it&#8217;s important for younger generations to continue to remember the sacrifices made by servicepeople.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s so that the people who went to the wars are not forgotten for the sacrifices they made for the country,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s not enough of the veterans to keep this going, it&#8217;s got to be in the minds of the younger generation so we hope these things never happen again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moorabool.vic.gov.au\/Home\">Moorabool Shire Council<\/a> website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COMMUNITY members are invited to gather across Moorabool Shire this Remembrance Day to reflect on the sacrifices made by the armed forces and civilians during times of war.
