THE Mount Egerton Recreation Reserve committee’s community market and car boot sale events are growing bigger each time they are held, and Sunday 16 November’s instalment is shaping up as the best yet.<\/p>\n
At least 70 stallholders and car boot vendors have registered to be part of the day, which will be held at the recreation reserve from 10am to 2pm.<\/p>\n
Reserve committee member Kathryn Long said stalls will range from secondhand items and bric-a-brac to crafts and other items like candles and glassware, as well as plants.<\/p>\n
The local CFA will also attend and will provide information about the coming fire season, along with their popular mini fire trucks that children can propel with fire hoses.<\/p>\n
“[There will be] free entry, and we’ll have a sausage sizzle and a raffle,” Ms Long said.<\/p>\n
Sunday will be the third time a market and car boot sale has been held at the reserve in the past 18 months, and Ms Long said the event was growing each time it has been held.<\/p>\n
She said the market and car boot sale had attracted about 50 sellers in its earlier stages, but at least 70 were scheduled to attend this weekend.<\/p>\n
Ms Long said many vendors were locals but just as many from Ballarat, Geelong and even the western suburbs of Melbourne were signing up.<\/p>\n
Funds raised through the event are put towards the committee’s efforts to have a children’s playground built at the reserve.<\/p>\n
The committee holds other fundraising events and activities as part of its campaign, for example last month’s Halloween party, which was an outstanding success.<\/p>\n
Ms Long recommended that people planning to browse and buy on Sunday should bring cash with them, because internet and phone signals at the venue are patchy and eftpos machines and similar payment methods may not work.<\/p>\n
She said some stallholders had taken eftpos machines to the previous markets.<\/p>\n
“But whether they work or not is hit and miss,” she said.<\/p>\n
