{"id":376,"date":"2017-04-18T03:04:06","date_gmt":"2017-04-18T03:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=376"},"modified":"2024-02-02T03:43:05","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T16:43:05","slug":"interest-in-leisure-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/interest-in-leisure-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Interest in leisure centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>By Kate Taylor<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Two expressions of interest have so far been received in the process to lease gym facilities at the Bacchus Marsh Leisure Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The leasing of the facility was decided on when councillors opted to not renew the contract with Belgravia Leisure to provide services at the centre, and instead have council manage it.<\/p>\n<p>The item was discussed at the April 5 council meeting, however no further details have emerged.<\/p>\n<p>Gym member Kathy addressed the meeting in Public Question Time saying that she is among a group of about 20 members concerned about the gym possibly closing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat active steps is council taking to find another provider?\u201d she asked at the meeting, also noting that there are over 55s and disability groups also using the facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Acting CEO Danny Colgan told the meeting in response that council has just begun the expressions of interest process, which closes on 20 April, and that two applications have already been received.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know it served a broad range of the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we are unsuccessful, we will come back to council to assess alternative options, maybe renting space on an hourly rate.
