She is predicting exciting things from Myah.<\/p>\n
“I am so proud of Myah making her first nationals. She has had an incredible season so far, and I can’t wait to see how she performs on the big stage,” Mackenzie said.<\/p>\n
“She has been training several times a week with either our mum or her jumps coach Karen Lloyd.<\/p>\n
“I definitely think she will be in the top 10.”<\/p>\n
With their abundance of combined talent, the sisters are each other’s biggest supporters and in no way competitive with each other.<\/p>\n
“We have never been competitive against each other in athletics because of the age group difference. I am always three age groups ahead of her, so we have never really competed against each other,” said Mackenzie, who hopes to one day become a zoo keeper.<\/p>\n
“Also she is a jumper and I am a sprinter.<\/p>\n
“In saying that she has just started breaking some of my under-15 jumping records at Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics.<\/p>\n
“That doesn’t bother me so much as I know she will never take my sprinting records from me.”<\/p>\n
Myah, a Year 10 student at Bacchus Marsh Grammar, is pinching herself after booking her spot at nationals.<\/p>\n
Despite enjoying her most consistent season to date, highlighted by plenty of personal bests and some new Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre records, including confining some of Mackenzie’s old ones to history, Myah admitted she was surprised to have qualified for her first national championships.<\/p>\n
“I honestly wasn’t expecting it this season,” she said.<\/p>\n
“I thought I would do well at long jump because of my recent performances at Little Athletics, however, triple jump was a surprise.<\/p>\n
“I wasn’t expecting to place. I didn’t even jump close to my personal best which is 10.80.<\/p>\n
“It (her silver medal in long jump) was an unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n
“It was my first podium placing in senior athletics, and my biggest moment in athletics to date, although I was disappointed that I didn’t jump a PB.”<\/p>\n
Myah, who started competing in athletics nine years ago, said she had learnt plenty from her sister and would cherish any advice given to her in the lead-up to Brisbane.<\/p>\n
“I’m not as nervous heading in to nationals because I have been to so many of Macca’s that I have experienced the atmosphere and seen what is involved,” she said.<\/p>\n
“She has taught me to focus on myself and not worry about others and what’s going on around me.<\/p>\n
“It’s so good to see Macca running again. She is an incredible athlete and I really admire and look up to her.”<\/p>\n
Myah has set herself the goal of jumping well and achieving a personal best at nationals.<\/p>\n
And for the long term?<\/p>\n
“At this stage I just hope to keep achieving PBs and have fun,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Being selected for nationals is a bonus.<\/p>\n
“It will be great making new connections.”<\/p>\n
