ONE of four new women’s health clinics to be established by the State Government will be located in Bacchus Marsh.<\/p>\n
Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas announced the free clinics last week, revealing that the Bacchus Marsh facility will be operated by Western Health.<\/p>\n
No other details of the clinic were made public at the time of the announcement.<\/p>\n
The news was welcomed by Member for Eureka Michaela Settle, who said it was part of the Government’s commitment to setting up 20 dedicated multidisciplinary women’s health clinics across the state.<\/p>\n
Ms Settle said women will be able to see specialists such as gynaecologists, urologists, specialist GPs, nurses and allied health professionals closer to home, saving them time and money while making it easier to access the care they need.<\/p>\n
Clinics will also open in Ararat, Heidelberg and Prahran.<\/p>\n
“For too long, women in our community have had to travel, wait or pay more to access specialist care,” Ms Settle said.<\/p>\n
“Having a women’s health clinic right here in Bacchus Marsh will make a real difference \u2013 giving local women access to expert care close to home.”<\/p>\n
The clinics will provide care and advice for a range of health issues including endometriosis, pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, prolapse and incontinence, contraception, abortion and menopause.<\/p>\n
Ms Settle said the Bacchus Marsh clinic will offer specialised treatment for pelvic pain.<\/p>\n
The clinics program builds on the Child and Adolescent Women’s Health Clinic operated by the Royal Children’s Hospital, which was announced as a response to the Victorian Inquiry into Women’s Pain, announced in 2024. The Bridging the Gender Pain Gap report was released late last year.<\/p>\n
Ms Settle said the response had been shaped by the experiences of more than 13,000 women and girls who shared their experiences of gender health gaps, medical bias and feeling ignored or dismissed when seeking care.<\/p>\n
“The reforms also include the rollout of the ‘green whistle’ pain relief device and the introduction of a statewide standard for women’s pain care,” she said.<\/p>\n
The network of 20 clinics forms part of a $153 million women’s health package involving a mobile clinic, Aboriginal-led services, a virtual women’s health clinic, and 20 sexual and reproductive health hubs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
