NOMINATIONS are open for the 2026 Victorian Mother of the Year award.<\/p>\n

A $10,000 prize is on offer for the winner to support a cause or initiative helping young people and families facing disadvantage.<\/p>\n

Monday 20 April is the closing date for nominations.<\/p>\n

On Friday 8 May, the winner will be announced at Melbourne Town Hall ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday 10 May.<\/p>\n

The award celebrates mothers and mother figures whose care, leadership and determination are changing lives in their communities.<\/p>\n

Examples of positive contributions from nominees could be through leadership, mentoring, advocacy, volunteering, caring for others, or everyday actions that help people feel supported and connected.<\/p>\n

Carolyn Morris, chief executive officer of award presenters Y Victoria, said it was a chance to recognise women whose impact was often felt even if not always widely seen.<\/p>\n

“We know there are extraordinary mother figures right across Victoria making a difference every day,” Morris said.<\/p>\n

“This award shines a light on that contribution and backs it with<\/p>\n

$10,000 to help extend the impact they are already having in their communities.”<\/p>\n

Carla Raynes was last year’s winner. She was recognised for founding Bridge It and creating The Cocoon, a housing model for young women and gender diverse people exiting homelessness and out-of-home care.<\/p>\n

The award was launched in 2024. The winner will receive the money from the Y’s charitable fund to support initiatives aligned with the organisation’s benevolent work.<\/p>\n

Judges of the award will also consider how nominees reflect the Y’s values of honesty, caring, inclusion, respect and responsibility.<\/p>\n
