{"id":38778,"date":"2026-04-23T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=38778"},"modified":"2026-05-06T18:45:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T08:45:08","slug":"new-heights-scorepb-and-medal-for-evelyn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/new-heights-scorepb-and-medal-for-evelyn\/","title":{"rendered":"New heights score PB and medal for Evelyn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FLYING Bacchus Marsh schoolgirl Evelyn Grant has jumped higher than ever before to get among the medals at the 2026 Coles Australian Little Athletics Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Competing last week at the national event in Brisbane, 11-year-old Evelyn claimed bronze in the Girls Under-12 High Jump, clearing a personal best height of 1.50m.<\/p>\n<p>The young Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre member cleared every height on her first attempt before narrowly missing at 1.52m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I felt really good after it because it&#8217;s a PB for me,&#8221; Evelyn said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve usually only jumped a little bit less than 150 (cm).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this height the bar comes up to about my eyes. I was thinking, am I going to clear this? I was just feeling excitement and looking forward to seeing if I could get a PB.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On day two of the Australian Little Athletics Championships, Evelyn also delivered a strong performance in the Girls Under-12 Javelin, throwing a personal best of 27.24 metres to place eighth in her division.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38783\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38783\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-38783 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2026\/04\/EvieGrantA_55687-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38783\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Evelyn Grant with her bronze medal. Photo: Supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now looking forward to competing in both high jump and discus in the upcoming school sports at district level, the year 6 pupil at Bacchus Marsh Primary has her hopes set on making the school nationals to be held at Albert Park later this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s good inspiration for the school sports,&#8221; she said of her nationals result as she prepared to board a plane to come home.<\/p>\n<p>BMLAC records and ranking officer Linda Thompson praised Evelyn&#8217;s atttitude to competing at national level.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Her composure and consistency throughout the competition were a true reflection of her hard work and determination,&#8221; Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has been wonderful to see Evie&#8217;s confidence grow as the season has progressed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She is now stepping onto the big stage with belief in her ability and continues to improve with every competition.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FLYING Bacchus Marsh schoolgirl Evelyn Grant has jumped higher than ever before to get among the medals at the 2026 Coles Australian Little Athletics Championships.
