{"id":39078,"date":"2026-05-08T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/?p=39078"},"modified":"2026-05-07T09:28:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T23:28:28","slug":"park-for-more-than-passing-cars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/park-for-more-than-passing-cars\/","title":{"rendered":"Park for more than passing cars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A park that helps form an unofficial gateway to Darley and Bacchus Marsh has been enhanced for visitors and residents to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Upgrades to Federation Park on Gisborne Road were officially opened on Thursday 30 April.<\/p>\n<p>Moorabool Shire Council provided $600,000 for the project, with the federal government contributing $400,000.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Cr Steve Vendetti-Taylor thanked all those who were involved in the project and said he had received positive feedback on the park&#8217;s upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The new car park, toilet block, linking paths, and landscaping are great additions to the new playground, shelter and barbecue area that has recently been built,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2026\/05\/260504-beforeFederat_29740.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Federation Park before the upgrades. Photo: Christopher O&#8217;Leary.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hawke MP Sam Rae said it was important the works were done not only for locals but visitors coming in from the town&#8217;s north-east.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Federation Park is the gateway to the Moorabool Shire and to Darley and Bacchus Marsh from Gisborne and from the Macedon Ranges,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got so many young families moving into our area, but we&#8217;ve also got so many people coming from outside our area to enjoy what&#8217;s awesome about our towns and our local community and of course this is a great way to welcome them here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rae said the works had been well received, with many children and their families already utilising the space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a fantastic outcome,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got native plantings, we&#8217;ve taken advantage of the beautiful gum trees that were already here and the landscaping is sensitive to the environment, which I think has been really welcomed by our local community.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A park that helps form an unofficial gateway to Darley and Bacchus Marsh has been enhanced for visitors and residents to enjoy.
