IN a simple, kind gesture, Mount Egerton Primary School students have helped put together food hampers for residents of their local area.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday 15 July, the packages were left at the local sheltered bus stop for anyone to take. All the hampers had been picked up not long afterwards.<\/p>\n
“We needed to, as our school always does, use sustainability to our advantage,” pupil Finley said.<\/p>\n
“We repackaged [food with a limited shelf life] into hampers for the community to have.”<\/p>\n
Principal Janet Tuaine promoted the initiative through Facebook on the school’s page and the district’s community pages.<\/p>\n
The social media posts attracted more than 100 likes, as well as comments praising the caring natures of Mount Egerton’s young people.<\/p>\n
“It just went viral, all of a sudden,” student Archie said.<\/p>\n
Finley said normally it was just their relatives that were aware of their thoughtful activities.<\/p>\n
“But now it is some of Moorabool Shire,” he said.<\/p>\n
The children said they felt positive that they had given back to their town and all agreed they would take part in helping make more hampers again.<\/p>\n
“It made me feel better because I knew…the school was giving out to the community,” student Abby said.<\/p>\n
She expected the community responded so well because the supplies were free of charge and close to home.<\/p>\n
“That way they’re not spending more on petrol, living and food,” she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
