{"id":4306,"date":"2020-02-10T16:16:45","date_gmt":"2020-02-10T05:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=4306"},"modified":"2024-02-02T22:16:41","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T11:16:41","slug":"more-than-just-another-brick-in-the-wall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/more-than-just-another-brick-in-the-wall\/","title":{"rendered":"More than just another brick in the wall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Caitlin Bewley<br \/>\n<em>(3<sup>rd<\/sup> Yr Swinburne Uni)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whilst Ballan was conducting a civic ceremony with approximately 200 people in the Mechanics Hall, another 200-people were attending Bungaree\u2019s Australia Day celebrations this year, watching on as three new families were added to their Heritage wall.<br \/>\nThe Bungaree Historical Society\u2019s annual celebration, opened by President Dennis Spielvogel, set out to commemorate the people who make \u201cBungaree a great place to live,\u201d Secretary Heather Trigg said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe wall was erected 12-years ago,\u201d Ms. Trigg continued. \u201cThere are 61 plaques on the wall at the moment.\u201d<br \/>\nAdded to the 61 plaques in 2020, were the Meade, Roberts and Downey families, with members from each giving a short speech and further displays after the ceremony.<br \/>\n\u201cThe plaques were erected to recognise people in the district that have made Bungaree a great place to live,\u201d Ms. Trigg said.<br \/>\nAmong the day\u2019s festivities, 2019 recipient of the Bungaree Historical Society\u2019s \u201cThis is your Life\u201d award Irene Parkin, read the Henry Lawson, <em>Flag of the Southern Cross<\/em> poem as her daughter unfurled the flag.<br \/>\nThe attendees also enjoyed Australian songs performed by the Sing Australia choir, followed by the town\u2019s twelfth-annual spud peel and activities for the children.<br \/>\nMs Trigg said Mr Spielvogel opened the day before passing proceedings over to Vice President, Tom Reynolds.<br \/>\n\u201cBungaree\u2019s Australia Day celebrations bring the town together and sometimes act as a family reunion,\u201d Ms. Trigg said, recognising the families that make it a great place to live.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Caitlin Bewley (3rd Yr Swinburne Uni) Whilst Ballan was conducting a civic ceremony with approximately 200 people in the Mechanics Hall, another 200-people were attending Bungaree\u2019s Australia Day celebrations this year, watching on as three new families were added to their Heritage wall.
