{"id":8370,"date":"2022-02-03T12:00:53","date_gmt":"2022-02-03T01:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=8370"},"modified":"2024-02-01T22:25:05","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T11:25:05","slug":"wood-you-believe-this","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/wood-you-believe-this\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Wood\u2019 you believe this?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<\/p>\n<p>A former Bacchus Marsh Cobra and Western Jet player has earned a spot on an AFLW list, impressing her club with a three-goal debut in the VFLW last year, and another three in an AFLW intraclub match last month.<\/p>\n<p>Jemima Woods took part in last year\u2019s AFLW Draft Combine after playing three games for the Bulldogs in the VFLW, but unfortunately wasn\u2019t drafted.<\/p>\n<p>But when Kirsten McLeod was moved to the AFLW Western Bulldogs\u2019 Inactive List with ongoing concussion symptoms, that left a spot in the squad free.<\/p>\n<p>On January 14 this year, it was announced that the vacant spot would be filled by none other than 18-year-old Ms Woods.<\/p>\n<p>The flying forward told the Moorabool News she was ecstatic at the chance to play at the top level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t believe it at first\u2026I didn\u2019t think they were playing a prank on me, but I didn\u2019t know what to think. It took a while to sink in, I didn\u2019t expect it at all, it was so last minute,\u201d Ms Woods said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a train-on player training once a week, but now I\u2019m full-time like the rest of the girls, up for selection each week\u2026so I\u2019ll up the training a bit. I\u2019ll take it week-by-week, it\u2019s hard to know when I\u2019ll debut with injuries and stuff\u2026but hopefully soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was told by coach Nathan Burke, former AFL St.Kilda great, that she\u2019d made the squad the day before her selection was announced to the rest of the team, and joked that keeping it a secret was \u201creally hard\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat training session before Burke mentioned it, I said to him, how long until I can tell everyone?
