\nMADDINGLEY PARK LAKE – Fate In Balance
\nLOST for years in a jungle of reeds\u2014at last count down\u2014Maddingley Park “lake” has re-emerged as a problem for Bacchus Marsh Shire Council.
\nAt last Monday’s Council meeting there was a lengthy discussion about the drainage of this area and whether the lake should be filled in. Decision was deferred. The Engineer (Mr. Bond) was instructed to investigate the possibility of conveying storm-waters from the railway culvert westward into the Maddingley drain. This was suggested as a permanent cure for the watery Invert in Park Street below the outlet of the lake.
\nThere is a certain amount of public sentiment attached to the Maddingley Park Lake. Early records tell that it was a lagoon favoured by aborigines as a camping place. When the Park was at its best, the lake featured ornamental islets, swans, goldfish, and a rowing boat, making a “beautiful picnic setting with happy memories\u201d for many of the older residents.
