	{"id":8788,"date":"2022-02-27T12:00:30","date_gmt":"2022-02-27T01:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=8788"},"modified":"2024-02-04T00:48:00","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T13:48:00","slug":"more-than-just-a-pub-feed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/more-than-just-a-pub-feed\/","title":{"rendered":"More than just a pub feed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<\/p>\n<p>Like the rest of the hotel hospitality industry, Ballan\u2019s Great Western Hotel has taken a huge hit during the pandemic \u2013 but the pub is bouncing back, with a revamped menu and a new head chef.<\/p>\n<p>The local pub was closed for five months during COVID with lockdowns and unworkable density limits, but is back better than ever with a new, updated menu that focuses both on quality and value for money.<\/p>\n<p>Owner Mitch Duncan said the Great Western was focusing on providing a great dining experience the whole community can enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d call our menu \u2018bistro food, with pub influences\u2019\u2026we have pub classics like fish and chips, schnitzel, and lamb shoulder\u2026it\u2019s just beautiful food,\u201d Mr Duncan told the Moorabool News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot more on our new menu in the $25 &#8211; $35 range. If you want to come down for a great night out, you can. If you want to nick down for a pub classic, you can do that t00. We\u2019re accessible for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New head chef Clive Kirby \u2013 who ran Buninyong\u2019s Pig &amp; Goose for seven years \u2013 said a new lunch menu would include lighter and cheaper options, with plans for weekend breakfasts also in the works, depending on staff availability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s more of a bistro menu, with a fine dining aspect in this environment. Our food is modern Australian, which covers everything. Australia, Melbourne especially, is very eclectic, it\u2019s the merging of flavours from lots of cultures. That\u2019s the type of food we serve,\u201d Mr Kirby said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWherever we can we source food locally, and I bake sourdough every day. Our food is fresh, it\u2019s clean, it\u2019s tasty. We\u2019ve got Italian nights, bingo, and Sunday roasts. It\u2019s about bringing the whole family together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re making the lunch menu accessible for people price-wise, but we\u2019re also making it snackier\u2026you might have an open steak sandwich, fish and chips, poached chicken salad\u2026something quick and easy, while the dinner menu will be more substantial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Great Western is open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday, and for dinner Wednesday to Saturday.
