{"id":9047,"date":"2022-03-15T14:00:45","date_gmt":"2022-03-15T03:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=9047"},"modified":"2024-02-04T00:01:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T13:01:18","slug":"powerline-win-in-nsw-inspires-victorians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/powerline-win-in-nsw-inspires-victorians\/","title":{"rendered":"Powerline win in NSW inspires Victorians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<\/p>\n<p>There is hope, after a decision by the New South Wales Energy Minister inspired powerline protesters here in Victoria, with a powerline corridor altered in NSW, due to public pressure.<\/p>\n<p>A planned 180-kilometre corridor, through fertile farmlands from Merriwa to Wellington in eastern NSW, had affected farmers up in arms.<\/p>\n<p>But after a year of fighting by the Merriwa-Cassilis Alliance (MCA), NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean changed the route to align with the existing Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone, using more land owned by mining companies to lessen impacts on agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>The news from the Upper Hunter region was reposted on social media by Darley Power Fight, with the caption \u201cPublic pressure is what it takes. Keep up the fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Head of Darley Power Fight Darren Edwards said he was encouraged by the triumph of people power in New South Wales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think on a holistic view, if we look at the future of Victoria\u2019s grid and its security\u2026I think undergrounding is the optimal solution as far as we\u2019re all concerned. But you can\u2019t put all your eggs in one basket, you have to have other options,\u201d he told the Moorabool News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore undergrounding, the best practice was to utilise existing corridors wherever possible.
