\nIt’s an Australian first.
\nAnd it kicks off today.
\nFor most Victorians, if you wake up feeling sick, you can take sick leave.
\nBut if you’re a casual worker, you have to make the choice between a day’s pay and looking after your health.
\nIt’s a choice you shouldn’t have to make.
\nSo we’ve done something about it.
\nStarting today, workers in casual and insecure work in eligible industries will be able to access five days of sick pay per year.
\nWorkers in hospo, food preparation, cleaning, security, laundries, supermarkets, retail, as well as aged and disability care will all be able to take time off if they’re sick, or to take care of a loved one.
\nThe Government is doing all the admin for the program, and making payments directly to workers – meaning no extra paperwork for businesses.
\nIt means that more than 150,000 Victorians will no longer have to choose between being able to pay rent and looking after their health.
\nBecause no one should have to go to work sick because they can’t afford not to.
\nAnd now – they don’t.
