{"id":9259,"date":"2022-03-29T08:00:25","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T21:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=9259"},"modified":"2024-02-03T23:06:48","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T12:06:48","slug":"given-out-defibs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/given-out-defibs\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Given\u2019 out defibs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<\/p>\n<p>A local primary school has expressed its gratitude, after being donated a life-saving device worth thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Mount Egerton Primary School was gifted a defibrillator by John Given, and Principal Tegan Bell said it was a vital piece of equipment not just for the safety of students, but the Mount Egerton community as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving a defib really increases the chain of survival, it\u2019s such a good thing to have at our school, and in the community in general. If something happens in the community, it\u2019s available for them to come and use as well,\u201d she told the Moorabool News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing such a small school, we might only have two staff here at one time. Without a defib, you\u2019d have one staff member herding the students away from the traumatic situation, while one staff member would be calling Triple Zero, on the phone while administering CPR. I don\u2019t know how long it would take an ambulance to get out here\u2026and with CPR, you only have a short time where you\u2019re effectively administering it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Bell said Mr Given\u2019s donation had come as a complete surprise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got a phone call out of the blue last year during lockdown. Mr Given rang and asked if we had a defib\u2026I said no we don\u2019t, and he wanted to donate one to our school.
