{"id":9330,"date":"2022-03-31T12:00:10","date_gmt":"2022-03-31T01:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=9330"},"modified":"2024-02-01T21:56:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T10:56:18","slug":"lang-remembered-with-classy-spirit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/sport\/lang-remembered-with-classy-spirit\/","title":{"rendered":"Lang remembered with Classy Spirit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Tim O\u2019Connor (HRV)<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Miles was quick to reflect on the late great Gavin Lang after landing a blowout victory at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Lang prepared Classy Spirit through the early part of her career, and before his passing in 2020 had suggested Miles continue training the squaregaiting mare.<\/p>\n<p>The Darraweit Guim horsewoman claimed her third win with the daughter of Eilean Donon at Victorian headquarters on Saturday night, with the narrow success in the Aldebaran Park Trot coming at $71 on the fixed odds.<\/p>\n<p>The six-year-old got home by a half-head to beat Golden Sunset (Juanita Breen), with Glengarriff (Joanne Franklin\/Jackie Barker) third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an emotional win,\u201d Miles told TrotsVision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Gavin is still very much in the forefront of a lot of our minds. He was such a mentor to a lot of us \u2013 be it open or being a silent mentor \u2013 so for him to personally suggest or recommend that this horse come to me, it\u2019s really honouring that I\u2019ve been able to train this horse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the owners are absolutely lovely, fantastic and I hope that Megan (Gavin\u2019s wife) is watching and gets to have a bit of that glory too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miles worked for Lang and his father Graeme as a youngster and often drove their horses at the races.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had the opportunity to get this horse from Gavin before his passing and had many a conversation.
