The community can now rest easy after plans were recently approved for two new attractions for Gordon residents at the local public park reserve.<\/p>\n

Last month there were concerns the project could forfeit close to $500,000 in federal government funding due to a delay in the Committee of Management signing off on the project, and a deadline of one week to have it signed, sealed and delivered.<\/p>\n

Works on Gordon\u2019s first ever skate park will begin at Gordon Public Park in June, with a 3×3 metre basketball court to be built shortly after.<\/p>\n

Skate park specialists CONVIC will be responsible for the build, shortly after completing similar plans at Mill Park in Ballan.<\/p>\n

In March, Secretary and Treasurer of the Committee, Dina Bowman, told the Moorabool News that the layout proposed by Council \u201cis not consistent with the current Reserve Master Plan\u201d, and cited \u201csafety and drainage concerns\u201d. This caused an uproar in the community with a barrage of comments on social media.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the issues have been resolved, and the Committee has since given its approval.<\/p>\n

Council CEO Derek Madden said discussions on this project have been taking place between Council and the Park\u2019s Committee of Management (COM) since February 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlanning upgrades to complement existing facilities, including tennis courts, public toilets, a community garden, and clubhouse,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have worked very closely with the committee to ensure this is a great deliverable for the people of Gordon and surrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Woodlands Ward Councillor Ally Munari said the new facilities had been desired by the community for many years.<\/p>\n
