	{"id":9861,"date":"2022-05-10T09:00:26","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T23:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/themooraboolnews.com.au\/?p=9861"},"modified":"2024-02-03T13:31:09","modified_gmt":"2024-02-03T02:31:09","slug":"makeover-for-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/themooraboolnews\/news\/makeover-for-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Makeover for school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lachlan Ellis<\/p>\n<p>It was a noisier reception than politicians usually receive, when the Deputy Premier visited a local school to announce over $10 million in funding for building upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>Victorian Minister for Education, James Merlino, visited Darley Primary School on Thursday 5 May, attending the school\u2019s assembly and speaking to over 500 excited students.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Merlino then toured the school with Principal Fiona Kerton and the school captains, alongside local State MPs Steve McGhie and Michaela Settle, and Area Executive Director for Central Highlands Jen McCrabb from the Department of Education.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Merlino thanked staff and students for their efforts in weathering a tough couple of years for everyone in education.<\/p>\n<p>He said the school was well deserving of the $10.67 million provided in the recently released State Budget, to go towards upgrading and replacing some aging buildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a wonderful school, welcoming\u2026it\u2019s a lovely environment, the kids are fantastic, there are great student outcomes here. But the facilities are old and tired, despite the best efforts of everyone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe building program is all about making sure we can match modern facilities with the quality of teaching that already happens at the school. It\u2019s not just the facilities, but also the furniture and those options as well. It\u2019ll be quite transformational.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Kerton said it was an exciting time for everyone in the school community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to work around continuing the great education here, around enrolments, and around our outcomes for children and their future moving forward,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very excited for the journey ahead.
