THE elder statesman of Australian rock, Ed Kuepper, is coming to Murwillumbah on his solo tour, landing at the Citadel on April 11.

The singer-songwriter has not toured solo since 2019.

Kuepper said that while his bands The Saints and Asteroid Ekosystem have taken precedence recently, his recent collaboration with Dirty Three drummer Jim White was his last tour in the region.

“Time flies, and surprisingly, it’s been some years since I’ve done any solo shows, so lo and behold, that is what I’m going to do,” Kuepper said.

“I’ll be trying out some new songs and deconstructing some audience faves and older beloved tunes in a relatively loving and spontaneous way.”

His album After the Flood, recorded with White in 2023, features eight Kuepper originals that dig into material from his past, including The Saints, Laughing Clowns, and his solo career.

“We took what Jim and I had been doing live and brought it into the studio,” Kuepper said.

“It was important that we captured the immediacy of what we’d been doing and that it wasn’t laboured over. Everything was laid down live.”

The solo tour includes these tracks, more from his recent reissue campaign including Electrical Storm, Honey Steels Gold and Black Ticket Day, old favourites from Kuepper’s rich back catalogue, and new material.
