Enrolments open for Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra 2025

Mentors from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Buddy program will support local students during rehearsals and workshops as part of the 2025 Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra.
YOUNG musicians across the region are being encouraged to join the Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra, which returns to Lismore in July for three days of music-making, learning and collaboration.
Hosted by the Northern Rivers Conservatorium, the annual event brings together school-aged musicians for workshops, rehearsals and performances led by experienced conductors and music educators.
The program also includes mentorship from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music through its Buddy program, offering students a rare chance to learn from some of the best in the field.
This year’s orchestra will include full orchestras, concert bands and string ensembles, with repertoire ranging from classical masterpieces to iconic film scores and contemporary works. The program concludes with a public performance at the Whitebrook Theatre, showcasing the skills and growth of the young musicians involved.

Local composer and Northern Rivers Conservatorium librarian Tilly Jones, who has taken part in the program every year since 2012, said it was a transformative experience for students.
“It is such an incredibly fun, rewarding and motivating experience,” she said.
“Alumni from NRYO have gone on to be world-class soloists and ensemble performers.”
The 2025 Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra will take place from July 8 to 10. The cost is $195 for senior players (AMEB 4 and above) and $175 for juniors (AMEB 1–3), with a $20 early bird discount available until June 13.
