AFTER a sold-out show in July, prolific piano woman Kylie Fisher is returning with her pop-up piano bar and sing-along show to the Kingscliff Beach Hotel on December 27.
Fisher is known for her high-energy nights of iconic anthems, crowd-fueled instant choirs, and a unique ability to turn any room into a party with her no-stage, no-barrier approach.
“In April this year, I performed at Felons in Brisbane on ANZAC Day and one of my videos went viral,” Fisher said.
“From that, I had every venue in the country emailing me, and now we’re selling out days before each show once a month, which is just blowing my mind. It’s been quite incredible.”
“Kingscliff was one of the first sing-alongs, and the clientele was probably 90 per cent women from 20 to 60.
“It was so incredible to have generations of women come to an environment where they feel safe, but also they can let their hair down with no inhibitions and just sing and dance with freedom for two and a half hours.”
Growing up in the church, Fisher began conducting choirs at the age of 16, citing it as her early training in the power of communal singing.
“My parents were on the music team, so I lived and breathed that until my mid-20s, and that’s where I get all of that; I’m playing the piano, and I stand up and encourage everyone to sing at the top of their lungs,” she said.
“Many of the messages on Instagram and Facebook after a show say that it was the best free therapy they’d ever had.
“Singing like that, where no one can hear you, is so incredibly freeing.”
Fisher is adamant that she doesn’t perform typical piano bar music.
“I don’t sing Sweet Caroline, and I don’t sing Piano Man, you’re going to hear them in every other piano bar in Australia, right?
“Sometimes I’ll open with Like a Prayer, and see there are a few more guys there, so I’ll give them a bit of a taste of other songs so they don’t think it’s just 80s, retro pop.
“Although Living on a Prayer has been going off as well, and lately I’ve been mashing up a lot of songs, like Rolling in the Deep by Adele, into the R&B dance track, Finally.
The singer is excited to return to Kingscliff.
“It’s a great time of year, and it’s packed with such great family energy,” she said.
“I want it to be family-friendly, and there are lots of visitors as well as locals, so it’s going to be awesome.”
