Debris – James Bourbon

James Bourbon is a self-taught visual artist based in Brisbane, whose practice sits at the intersection of popular culture, consumerism and collective memory. This exhibition held at Northern Rivers Community Gallery in conjunction with Ignite Studios, presents large-scale, black and white hand-painted banners built from reused print media. Their striking scale echoes advertising, rebuilding past imagery to question consumer culture and its influence on everyday life. A major exhibition by acclaimed Australian artist Marian Tubbs at the Lismore Regional Gallery brings together a dynamic body of work which showcases her assemblage-driven practice across video, lenticular photography, sculpture and installation. The exhibition draws on both physical and digital detritus – from surveillance footage and found imagery to discarded everyday objects – to construct layered, often surreal environments that challenge conventional systems of value and perception.
