NOT-for-profit organisations across the Tweed can now apply for funding, with Tweed Shire Council opening a new round of community grants of up to $5,000.
The funding is part of the council’s Community Grant Program and is designed to assist local organisations to deliver projects that encourage social connection, support inclusion and strengthen community ties.
In the previous funding round, 13 organisations were successful, representing a range of community groups including an art school, preschools, a theatre company, a fishing club and a community garden.
The council’s acting inclusive and creative manager, Kim Wilson, said the program played a key role in supporting grassroots organisations.
“These grants provide a valuable opportunity for local groups to strengthen connections and create positive social impact across our community,” Wilson said.

“We are proud to support organisations that are helping to build a more inclusive, resilient and caring Tweed.”
One of last year’s recipients, Murwillumbah Football Club, received $4,270 to assist with restoring its canteen after it was significantly damaged in the 2022 floods.
The funding supported the purchase of essential electrical appliances and contributed to repair and rebuilding work.
Murwillumbah Football Club president Jessica Lee said the grant had made a meaningful difference.
“Having the canteen back open at the club has made a huge impact, not only financially but also just for the community itself,” Lee said.
“Our parents are involved.
“Our kids are involved.
“We’re fed, we’re happy.
“And it just creates a really happy environment.”
The council has encouraged organisations interested in applying to attend free drop-in support sessions, where they can ask questions and receive guidance on their applications.
Applications close on 30 June.
