LOCAL community leaders met with Tweed Shire Council for the second Resident, Environment and Industry Group Roundtable forum of 2025 at the Civic Centre in Murwillumbah last week.
The follow-up event, held after the inaugural event in June, shared feedback and offered participants the opportunity to learn more about the draft Development Control Plan.
Bringing together community leaders from across the Tweed to share lived experiences and learn how the draft plan could shape the region’s future, the forum discussions outlined changes such as flood level requirements, the preservation of trees and vegetation, and residential development.
Participants examined proposed changes such as flood level requirements and tree and vegetation preservation and how they might impact their communities, and shared perspectives and practical feedback with council staff.
The forum was established to ensure that planning and decision-making are shaped by people who live and work in the Tweed, and to build trust, incorporate diverse perspectives, and strengthen collaboration between the council and the community.
The interactive format encourages learning, listening and questions, while allowing attendees to prepare a group submission and take insights back to their communities.
Tweed Shire Council general manager Troy Green said the forum had demonstrated the value of collaboration.
“Looking around this room, I’m proud to see such an incredible group of community leaders working together for the Tweed,” Green said at the event.
“Each of you brings unique voices, experiences and knowledge and a shared commitment to shaping better decisions for the Tweed.”
