LISMORE City Council has resolved to begin negotiations with two organisations over the possible shared future use of the former Greyhound Track site at 1 Molesworth Street following a community expression of interest process.

Council will enter discussions with the Northern Rivers Junior Motorcycle Club and Jagun Alliance Corporation after a community Expression of Interest (EOI) process drew 11 submissions proposing a range of future uses for the site.

The move is aimed at exploring ways to reactivate the site, which has remained largely unused since the 2022 floods.

Lismore City mayor Steve Krieg said council wanted to ensure that the future use of the prominent location delivered benefits for the community.

“This is a significant site in a key location, and Council wants to ensure its future use delivers strong community benefit,” he said.

“The proposals put forward highlighted opportunities focused on youth engagement, skills development and cultural outcomes, and Council will now work with the organisations involved to further explore what a shared-use arrangement could look like.”

The general manager has been delegated authority to carry out consultation and negotiations with the organisations involved, with any future agreement to be brought back before council for consideration at a later date.

The site was gifted to council earlier this year by Greyhound Racing NSW, opening the door for new potential uses of the land aligned with community priorities.

Council said the acquisition remains subject to due diligence and finalisation of the title transfer process.

More information is expected to be released as discussions continue.
