Federal Community Children's Centre's Family Fun Day.

FACE painting and fancy hairdos will be just some of the attractions at the Federal Community Children’s Centre Family Fun Day on Saturday October 18.

Local band The Imprints will provide live music at the event, which will also include a barbecue, a games alley and a performance by members of Mullumbimby circus school Spaghetti Circus.

Families can look forward to a wide range of hands-on activities, including a visit from a fire truck, weaving sessions with the founders of Jugun Dandii, yoga classes with Bunyarabugalma Yoga, soccer games hosted by Out of the Box Football Academy and flower planting with Bush Kindy, which offers nature play and outdoor learning programs.

Raffle tickets will be available on the day, with prizes donated by local businesses including Synthesis Organics, Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens, The Banya bathhouse, Loco Love Chocolate and Calmer Chai.

This year’s event will raise funds to install solar panels on the roof of the community-owned, not-for-profit centre.

“The Centre is committed to operating as sustainably as we can and solar panels will not only help us do this, but will also reduce our operating costs as a not-for-profit centre,” Federal Community Children’s Centre director Mandala Diehl said.

“The event is dearly loved by the children and is such a wonderful chance for all local families to enjoy a day together celebrating community and the environment. It’s an opportunity to strengthen our community ties, while also supporting the centre.”

The event runs from 10am to 2pm on Saturday October 18, outside Federal Community Children’s Centre in the Byron Bay hinterland. Ms Diehl said families from across the region are invited to attend.
