Free community carer and responder training in Tweed
THE Plan C Community Carers and Responders Network will present five days of free training in Tweed next month.
Supporting greater crisis prevention, preparedness, response and recovery at the community level, the CCR network of volunteers comprises a trained and connected group of leaders dedicated to community cohesion and resilience.
Network volunteers receive five days of training on a range of topics including self-care, disaster resilience, community building, emergency communications and food, water, and energy security.
The core subjects will be supplemented by a day of first aid and a day of psychological first aid training.
Plan C’s website said that programs are focused on ensuring our food, water, energy and communication systems are being strengthened at the grassroots level.
“And that our communities have plans, connections and resources in place for addressing their needs both in times of peace and during emergencies,” the website stated.
“One of the greatest benefits of the CCR program has been enhancing networks and connecting community leaders across the Northern Rivers.

“It’s very important to us that this is done well, so we place a great amount of focus on fostering ethical resilience, emotional intelligence, effective communication and leadership skills.”
The Northern Rivers CCR network was established in 2021 in response to the need to enhance community resilience against disruptive events, natural hazards and socio-economic crises.
More than 500 volunteer CCRs now stretch across the seven LGAs of the Northern Rivers.
Graduating participants receive a CCR cap, t-shirt and solid first-aid kit, and are then mentored to lead a project that builds the resilience of their community.
Additional workshops, community events, and field visits continue to deepen knowledge and connections within the network.
The Tweed training runs from Wednesday, August 27, to Saturday, August 31.
