Have your say on recreational spaces and main beach carpark at Byron Foreshore

THE BYRON Shire community can still have their say on the future of Byron Bay foreshore until the end of the month.

Byron Shire Council’s director infrastructure services, Phil Holloway, said a concept plan has been developed for the area, which is one of the community’s most loved locations and attracts a large amount of visitors each year, while having great importance to traditional landowners.

The plan proposes a range of changes and upgrades including stormwater issues at Apex Park, Byron Surf Club improvement and access, Clarkes and Main Beach access and accessibility, planning for dying Pandanus trees and vegetation lost in recent storm surge events and the relocation and/or re-design of the Clarke’s Beach Café.

“It’s incredibly important to council and us as councillors to hear from the community about big decisions we are making that affect our local community,’ deputy mayor Sarah Ndaiye said.

Byron Shire Council hosted pop-up sessions between June 20 and July 7 where community members could complete a survey.

Mr Holloway encouraged community members to provide feedback online via Council’s website until July 31, when consultation closes.

“Council staff have looked at the Byron Bay Town Centre Masterplan and Main Beach Shoreline Project, as well as consulting with key stakeholders on the project, to develop a plan that reflects what everyone values,” Mr Holloway said.

“Now we want to hear from the wider community on what we’ve got right, what we’ve got wrong and whether there’s anything we’ve missed.”
