WOMEN from across Australia were recognised for their leadership, compassion and community impact at the Heart of Women Awards, held as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.
The milestone event marked the awards’ 10th anniversary, honouring 19 women whose work is helping shape stronger and more connected communities.
Major honours included Woman of the Year, awarded to Jewels Harrison, CEO of the Unique Star Shine App, while humanitarian worker and disaster response nurse and paramedic Helen Zahos received the Woman of the Decade award in recognition of her long term contribution.
Young Woman of the Year went to Lindisfarne student Kimiyo Tango, with other category winners including entrepreneur Bethany Chambers, Held + Free founder Kathy Rhodes, podcast creator Ky Garvey, Swell Sculpture Festival creator Natasha Edwards and environmental fundraiser Trinity Mattocks.
Recognition was also given to Michelle Silipo for her Unsung Hero work, Kathrine Peereboom for Making a Difference, Amanda McClelland in Health and Community Services and Anne Marie Bessell in Youth and Children’s Services.
The Older Women Co Housing Association received the Making a Difference Group award, highlighting collaborative efforts to support women in the community.
Founder and psychologist Theresa Mitchell said the awards were created to shine a light on the ripple effect of compassion and leadership.
“These women are often the unsung heroes,” she said.
“Their actions strengthen families, create opportunity and inspire others to step forward and make a difference.”
Held at The Imperial with a “Night at the Palace” theme, the evening celebrated a decade of recognising women whose courage and commitment continue to shape communities nationwide.
