A NEW Housing Delivery Authority has been launched to accelerate the construction of homes across New South Wales, with developers invited to submit proposals through an ongoing expressions of interest process.

Acting Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Anoulack Chanthivong said the initiative is key to tackling the state’s housing crisis.

“The NSW Government will do everything possible to build a better future for NSW so young people, families and key local workers have somewhere to live and in the communities they choose,” he said

The HDA aims to streamline pathways for major residential projects, including a new State Significant Development process and a concurrent rezoning option.

Monthly reviews of proposals will prioritise high-yield, well-located projects that can be delivered quickly and contribute to affordable housing supply.

Property Council NSW executive director Katie Stevenson welcomed the release of the expressions of interest criteria, saying the authority’s swift progress reflects the urgency of the state’s housing crisis.

“The Housing Delivery Authority has a clear mandate – to drive more flexible and faster approval pathways across the state so we can get more housing delivered more quickly,” Ms Stevenson said.

She added that lowering thresholds for large-scale residential development should reduce delays and provide confidence for the property sector going into 2025.
