LISMORE Library will host a series of free information sessions during Law Week from May 18 to 24, helping community members access legal information and advice in a welcoming environment.

Law Week will begin on Monday, May 18, with a drop in session from 2pm to 4.30pm focused on helping people find and use plain English legal resources available through the library and online.

Library staff will guide participants through resources including the library’s Find Legal Answers collection and State Library legal information services.

Topics covered in the collection include family law, AVOs, tenancy law, fines, mortgage stress and disputes with neighbours.

A second session will be held on Friday, May 22, from 10am to 11am, with a solicitor from the Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre presenting a free community legal education talk on future planning.

The session will cover wills, Power of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship, with attendees also able to ask questions.

Area librarian Michael Lewis said the session would help people better understand important legal decisions and responsibilities.

“This is a great opportunity for community members to learn more about planning for the future and to ask questions in a welcoming and accessible environment,” he said.

Lewis said the session would also provide guidance on choosing an executor and understanding what the role involves.

The Friday event will form part of the library’s weekly senior social group but is open to anyone interested in future planning or learning more about legal responsibilities involving family members.

Lismore Library said libraries could often provide a useful starting point for people with general legal questions by offering free and accessible information resources.
