LISMORE High School students have sold a custom-built tiny home for $79,000 after spending months designing and constructing the project as part of a hands-on learning program.
The home was auctioned during Primex at the showground after year 9 and 10 students spent one day a week across three school terms working alongside teachers, local tradespeople and industry professionals.
The Tiny Homes @ Lismore High program started in 2024 as a response to the region’s housing crisis and ongoing impacts from the 2022 floods.
The group of 12 students gained hands-on experience across carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting and cabinetry.
The sale continues the success of the program after its first tiny home sold for $65,000 last year, helping fund this year’s build.
Proceeds from the latest sale will be reinvested into future student projects and help create more opportunities for practical training, industry connections and pathways into apprenticeships, traineeships and further education.

Lismore High School principal Chris Williams said the initiative was providing authentic learning experiences with lasting benefits.
“This project is about more than building a tiny home,” Williams said.
“It is about building confidence, skills, pathways and hope for young people.
“The Year 9 and 10 students are gaining real industry experience while creating something that leaves a lasting legacy for future students and the wider community.”
The program is supported by Regional Industry Education Partnerships and local industry partners.
The home features a barn style sliding bedroom door, compact kitchen, timber finishes and an outdoor deck, along with a bathroom including a shower, vanity and toilet.
