More flood support for businesses and farmers
Under the joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), the new funding will provide both immediate and longer-term assistance to individuals, families, and communities.
Member for Lismore and Minister for Recovery and Small Business, Janelle Saffin, said the move was intended to ensure immediate help.
“This is about making sure that communities get the helping hand they need right now and the support they need so they can begin the long journey to recovery,” Saffin said.
“We will keep working closely with our people in local governments, service providers and community organisations to ensure support reaches those who need it most.”
Support includes grants of up to $25,000 for eligible small businesses (with fewer than 20 employees), non-profit organisations and primary producers to clean up and restore their operations.
A $5 million program is also included to clear drainage on private land following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government understood how tough the period of extreme weather events had been for many across the state.
“This is a clear example of the Australian and NSW Governments working together to deliver real help on the ground where it’s needed most,” Albanese said.
Recovery grants for primary producers, small businesses and not-for-profit organisations will be available in the affected Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers local government areas, including Ballina, Byron Bay, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley, and Tweed.
