MORE than 160 riders turned out in Ballina to support a Diggers Military Motorcycle Club fundraiser focused on helping ex-service personnel across the region.
The Northern NSW chapter of the club runs two major fundraising events each year in support of Legacy and other veteran-focused charities. Its latest ride marked the group’s first visit to Ballina, with the ride to Casino raising just over $3,000 for Young Veterans.
Young Veterans operates nationally, supporting recently discharged military members as they transition back into civilian life.
Event organiser Kodi Graham said it was the biggest turnout the group had seen since 2020.
“The conditions were some of the best we’ve had, and there were people in the convoy from all over Australia,” he said.
“The riding pack stretched for about 2km and we ended up getting more people than expected.
“We were really happy to receive such strong support in an area like Ballina, where we haven’t spent a lot of time before.
“All the proceeds go directly to the support group to make sure the help reaches those who need it.”
The ride was supported by Casino RSM Club, Bunnings Lismore and Ballina RSL Club, with fundraising stops at the Hilltop Hotel in Goonellabah and the Tatts Hotel in Casino.
The club’s next ride is scheduled for August, with Legacy set to be the main beneficiary.
