TAFE NSW is launching two new music courses at Southern Cross University’s Lismore campus, offering hands-on training in composition, production and performance.

The Certificate III in Music will begin on July 21 as a six-month part-time course using Ableton Live, while the Diploma of Music (Creation and Composition) will open for mid-year intake later this month, with another intake next year.

A TAFE NSW spokesperson said the courses would equip local artists, performers and producers for careers in the music industry.

“Students will learn from highly experienced teachers,” the spokesperson said.

“Two teachers are certified trainers in the Ableton music production program out of currently only ten Ableton certified trainers in Australia.”

The courses are designed to support students working across all genres and are subsidised under the government’s Smart and Skilled program, making them accessible to most domestic students.

The Lismore campus already hosts a range of creative arts training including visual arts, ceramics, Aboriginal cultural arts, design and screen and media.

“These new music programs reflect TAFE NSW’s ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and meeting the needs of both industry and community,” the spokesperson said.
