A NEW pump track is under construction at Kingsford Smith Reserve in Ballina, designed to host world championship-level events while providing a vibrant new recreation space for locals.

The specially designed circuit for bikes, scooters and skateboards is expected to be completed by October.

The project is part of a $1.6 million investment in local sports fields through Ballina Shire Council’s 2024/25 budget, with $733,345 provided by the state government.

Ballina Shire mayor Sharon Cadwallader said the facility would become a safe, welcoming hub for young people and families.

“This project reflects our commitment to enhancing community wellbeing and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles throughout Ballina Shire,” she said.

“It’s not just a space for local riders; it’s a community hub where people of all ages can gather, ride, watch, and enjoy.”

Built to national qualifier event standards, the new pump track will be eligible to host rounds of the pump track world championship series.

The project will also include a junior pump track, an alternate advanced line, and supporting infrastructure such as spectator areas, hardstands, bike stands, drinking fountains, seating, a workstation, and shaded landscaping.

It forms a key part of the Kingsford Smith Reserve Master Plan, adopted in 2021 following extensive community consultation focused on youth needs and upgraded facilities.

Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said she was pleased to see work underway.

“The new pump track will provide a fun, active space for people of all ages to enjoy where riders can test out their new skills and get outside in nature,” she said.

“The NSW Government is committed to upgrading local infrastructure that improves community health and wellbeing.”
