TWEED Shire Council is inviting community members to celebrate older people and the many ways they enrich local life at the Tweed Seniors Festival from Monday, March 2 to Sunday, March

15 Part of the NSW Seniors Festival, the largest celebration of its kind in the southern hemisphere, last year’s program hosted more than 40 events in Tweed, and 2026 promises to be another full and vibrant fortnight of activities promoting connection, wellbeing, learning, and fun.

This year’s theme, Live Life in Colour, encourages participants to celebrate the vibrancy, diversity and contributions of older people.

Community members can nominate local senior heroes for the Tweed Local Achievement Award to celebrate their contribution to the community, presented at the festival’s opening ceremony.

The awards recognise the seniors who help make Tweed a more diverse, active and inspiring place to live.

Tweed Shire Council’s community care coordinator, Jo Watters, said the Local Achievement Awards acknowledged the vital role that seniors played across the community.

“They are people who willingly give their time and energy behind the scenes to make our community a better place to live,” Watters said.

“And the festival program has something for everyone. We have river cruises, bus tours, creative workshops, and social groups; there are loads to choose from.

Organisers are seeking volunteers for the Tweed Seniors Festival Working Party, a dedicated group that helps plan the festival each year.

The festival opening ceremony will be held at Murwillumbah Civic & Cultural Centre on March 2.

Nominations for local hero close on Friday, January 30. The festival program will be released in late January.
