Nominate now for the 2025 Byron Shire Community Awards and help celebrate locals making a difference. Entries close on 16 June.

NOMINATIONS are now open for the 2025 Byron Shire Community Awards, with locals encouraged to recognise individuals, groups and businesses making a difference in the region.

The awards celebrate outstanding contributions to community life and will be presented during Local Government Week on Tuesday August 5.

Byron Shire mayor Sarah Ndiaye urged residents to take a moment to reflect on the people around them who go above and beyond.

“Byron Shire is blessed with a rich and colourful community spirit, and we all know people who go above and beyond to make a difference to the lives of others,” she said.

“It is these talents and efforts that we want to shine a light on at the 2025 Awards, and I urge everyone to have a think about who you think deserves an award – and nominate them today.

“Let’s take this opportunity to recognise these people and groups and the important contribution they make – and give them a very big and public thank you.”

There are eight award categories this year, including Community Member of the Year, Young Community Member of the Year, Community Initiative of the Year, In Business for Good, Caring for Country Award, Contributions to Health and Wellbeing Award, Creativity Award, and Access and Inclusion Award.

Now in its third year, the awards program continues to grow, highlighting the diverse ways people contribute to the social and cultural life of Byron Shire.

Nominations are open until 16 June. For more information or to submit a nomination, visit the Byron Shire Council website.
