Woman dies after being hit by car in Tweed Heads
A WOMAN has died after being hit by a car on Dry Dock Road in Tweed Heads on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 1 pm after reports a car had collided with a pedestrian.
“Officers from the Tweed/Byron Police District attended to find that a Mazda sedan had hit a woman, causing her to fall onto the road,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
The 76-year-old woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious head injuries and was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital, where she died on Saturday.
The 67-year-old woman driving the vehicle was taken to Tweed Valley Hospital for mandatory testing.
The stretch of Dry Dock Road has a history of serious crashes, with pedestrians and cyclists injured in multiple incidents in recent years.
“An investigation into the incident has commenced, and officers are preparing a report for the coroner,” the NSW Police spokesperson said.
