MURWILLUMBAH’S Poets Out Loud is returning to M|Arts to kick off 2025.

Hosted by prize-winning poet Sarah Temporal, the much-loved and well-attended poetry night returns on Thursday, February 13.

Audiences can expect this month’s feature poet Beth Wakeling, a poetry slam, and an open mic for word-loving attendees to sign up and share spoken-word creations.

Wakeling (AKA Beth the Barber) has built a strong following with impeccable timing and cadence; she draws inspiration and subject matter from past loves and the trials and simple joys of everyday life.

Her poetry is relatable, hilarious and poignant.

Poets Out Loud is a platform for spoken-word events and projects based in the Northern Rivers and runs open mic, poetry slam, youth program, and community arts events across the region. Poet and educator Temporal is its leader.

Her debut collection, Tight Bindings, explored the stories we tell and the secrets we keep. Temporal is a winner of the Bunker Slam and Nimbin Poetry World Cup, with work published in Best of Australian Poems.
