Record crowds at Lismore Show
MORE than 20,000 people attended this year’s Lismore Show, which broke records with new attractions and entries in several competitions.
The North Coast National Lismore Show has long been a community favorite, and this year’s highlights included the PopZone and Cosplay competitions, which were embraced by attendees.
Show vice-president Ron Chittick said the three-day event was a success, with new attractions drawing strong participation across many categories.
“The new PopZone and Cosplay competitions were hugely successful with the community embracing the new concept, and the fact that we had record entries across many categories, shows that the show remains the heart of our community,” Mr Chittick said.
“We also had more than 350 head of cattle at the show and our equestrian and show jumping events drew healthy entries.
In addition to new events, the show continued its tradition of celebrating community stories. John and Lola Neilsen, who first met at the show 60 years ago, returned to celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary.
This year’s Young Women competitions also made memories for participants. Claire Mitchell won the Little Miss Showgirl title, followed by Amelia Duley and Emily Hull. In the Junior Showgirl competition, Jessica Towner took first place, with Annabelle Woodard in second and Willow Hall in third.
The TURSA Art Prize was another highlight, with Dellene Strong’s artwork ‘Down by the Sea’ winning the acquisition prize. Angela Parr’s ‘The Nail’ was named Grand Champion of the art prize.
“There was a lot on offer at this year’s show, with new attractions and rides,” Mr Chittick said.
“There is a year’s planning and a lot of work that goes into putting the three days of the show together and it’s all done by volunteers.”
