THE membership of Seagulls Club at Tweed Heads and Twin Towns Services Club will soon convene to vote on approving an amalgamation of the two organisations.

Currently part of Norths Collective, if successful, Seagulls will de-amalgamate and become an additional premises of Twin Towns.

Following an invitation to submit expressions of interest in September 2025, Twin Towns received two offers from Seagulls via Norths and Cudgen Leagues Club.

In a notice to members, Seagulls CEO Tony Mathew outlined the details of the de-amalgamation of the Seagulls premises from Norths to a new entity, Seagulls (No. 2), forming a temporary club, and the subsequent amalgamation with Twin Towns.

“The Seagulls Tweed Heads premises will continue to operate, but they will be conducted by Twin Towns,” Mathew said.

Currently operating three registered clubs in the Tweed region, as a result of the amalgamation, 62,643 Twin Towns members would become reciprocal members of Seagulls.

The merger also ensures all community club grants would remain in the region, with Twin Towns having a greater capacity to continue funding sports and club promotions.

“The decision was not taken lightly. The board of Norths recognises the 27-year history and connection many members have with Seagulls Tweed Heads,” a Norths spokesperson said in a statement to its members.

“A partner like Twin Towns will herald in a new era for the Tweed Heads-based members of Norths, and this is also a decision in their best interests, both long and short term.”

Negotiations are continuing regarding the arrangements and the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) necessary to proceed.

If finalised, a copy of the MOU will be available for inspection by members of both clubs.
