THE Tweed Coast Tigers community is supporting one of its own and raising funds to help local resident Matt Gallagher and his family fight Crohn’s disease.

The club is urging the community to support the Gallaghers’ cause and raise awareness of the chronic condition by purchasing last-minute raffle tickets with incredible prizes.

Gallagher has battled severe and relentless Crohn’s disease since childhood. The disease is a chronic inflammatory and autoimmune condition affecting the digestive tract and causing the body’s immune system to attack healthy tissue.

The lifelong challenge sees up to 75 per cent of patients requiring surgery due to complications, with Gallagher having multiple surgeries on a regular basis.

His wife Elise and their three children, Levi, Harper, and Avalon are stalwart in their love and support but also bear the burden of the ongoing battle as a family.

The first prize in the fundraising raffle is a handmade custom surfboard—the ‘Coolangatta Night Train’—valued at $1000. Andrew Hurdley, another Tweed Coast Tigers family member, designed, shaped, and donated the board.

The second, third, and fourth prizes are a 10-Session Pass pack at the SALT Movement and Recovery Gym, valued at $318.

All funds raised through the $5 tickets sale will help ease the family’s strain and support them amid the ongoing health and financial challenges. The club said a small effort made an enormous, combined difference.

Raffle winners will be drawn on Saturday, March 8 at 12 noon (AEDT) after the Senior Men’s first practice match at Beaumont Tiles Tweed Oval.
